The Department of Geography is seeking an excellent candidate to join our staff as a Research Assistant. This person will join the team working on a Research Ireland / Taighde Eireann (Formerly Science Foundation Ireland) Discover award in conjunction with the European Space Education Resource Office Ireland – an outreach project with national scope entitled “5*S: Space, Surveyors and Students: STEM and the Sustainable Development Goals”. This project focuses on developing methods for introducing students to Copernicus, spatial data and the UN SDGs and is a collaboration between Maynooth University (Departments of Geography and Education), TU Dublin, Esri Ireland, the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland and Taite Eireann. The person appointed will have a proven remote sensing skillset and experience of working with Copernicus imagery appropriate to career stage. Candidates must demonstrate the capability for independent, problem focused thinking and be enthusiastic about showcasing space data such as Copernicus. The successful candidate will be expected to visit project partners and schools all around the country and therefore a full EU driving license and access to their own car are essential.
Salary
Research Assistant Level 1 (2024): €31,962 – €33,203 p.a. (3 points)
Appointments will be made in accordance with public sector pay provisions.
