Applications are invited for the above post, to commence as soon as possible for 6 months with possibility to extend.
Whilst not recognised for training purposes, we are committed to provide a supportive learning environment in order to maximise the career potential of the successful candidate. All candidates must be eligible for full registration with the General Medical Council. There is a well-established FY2/ST and Specialist Registrar training program and it is expected that the successful candidate will participate in these sessions. Time will be allocated for educational activities to broaden the horizon of the candidate.
This post has been specially designed for doctors with previous experience in Neurosurgery who wish to consolidate their clinical experience prior to Specialist Registrar training by getting experience to work at the middle grade level in this neurosurgical unit. One of the post may also offer the additional opportunity to work closely with a team of consultants providing Skull Base & Vascular services including interventional neuroradiology. This post will be more suited for senior level neurosurgical training .
South Tees NHS Trust is one of the largest in the country, comprising of the James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough and the Friarage Hospital, Northallerton. The James Cook University Hospital is a major tertiary and teaching centre with over 1,000 beds, serving a largely urban population It provides comprehensive regional specialties including Cardiothoracic Surgery, Neurosurgery, Maxillofacial Surgery, Plastic Surgery, ENT and Ophthalmic Surgery. It is a regional centre for Spinal Cord Injury, Upper GI and Vascular Surgery. All other major specialties are catered for. The Friarage Hospital, Northallerton, serves a population of 120,000 covering 1,000 sq miles of rural North Yorkshire, and provides local medical services for the area. The hospital has recently undergone major re-development.
The quality of life for professionals and their families in the North East of England is good with easy access to attractive countryside and beaches, a choice of highly rated schools and good travel access to the North and Scotland, the Lake District or the South by road, rail or air.
