About the role:
The Parking Operations Team deal with the day to day running of Torbay Council car parks and pay and display equipment. You will be travelling around Torbay in a Torbay Council vehicle, as well as some office-based working, carrying out general maintenance and repairs of parking payment machines, periodical and ad hoc inspections of parking infrastructure and supporting all areas of Parking Services. The Parking Operations team are often faced with unexpected situations, creating a responsive and dynamic work environment. You'll be working as part of a friendly and supportive team, working an average of 37 hours a week on a 7-day rota basis, with occasional out of hours working and rostered standby shifts.
What you'll be doing:
- Driving a Torbay Council vehicle across Torbay.
- Working alone and as part of a team.
- Repairing and maintaining parking equipment.
- Inspecting car parks.
- Supporting events – deploying signs, cones, advising event holders, closing car parks.
- Reporting defects.
- Keeping accurate records.
- Providing customers with parking information.
- Helping to improve customer satisfaction.
What you'll bring:
- The ability to work as part of a team and on your own.
- An awareness of health and safety.
- PC skills would be an advantage.
- Ability to work in a dynamic and reactive environment.
- Full driving licence.
- Ability to keep accurate records.
- Problem solving skills and a can-do attitude.
What we'll give you in return:
In addition to competitive pay, salary enhancements are paid for Sunday and bank Holiday working along with additional payment for standby working.
You will be provided with full uniform and all required equipment. No previous experience of parking or parking equipment repair is necessary but, a practical and hands on approach to working would be an advantage.

Essential:
- Effective communication skills and the ability to communicate with all mediums from verbal to electronic.
- Customer focused approach and prioritise customers needs.

- Ability to demonstrate effective numeracy and literacy skills.
Knowledge
Essential:
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office including excel, word and outlook.
- Able to interpret contractual documents to direct contractors to deliver services on behalf of the Council.
Experience & Qualifications
Essential:
- Problem solving in a customer service environment.
- Face to face experience of dealing with customers.
- Experience in equipment maintenance/repair.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
