An Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer in an FMCG manufacturing factory is responsible for ensuring the smooth functioning and maintenance of electrical systems and instrumentation controls that are essential for the production process. Below is a typical job description for this role:
Job Title: Instrumentation Engineer (Digital)
Roles & Responsibilities
- Driving DFOS, SPC, Buildapp, Manufacturing Control Tower (MCT), Digi Arogya & all digital initiatives from Dapada, SCLF Team & Other factories
- Operation & maintenance of SCADA, PLC, HMI & automation related infrastructure of all high bay, packing machines & utility
- Operation & maintenance of network, servers, UPS & cyber security
- Dosing accuracy improvement & monitoring (+/- 0.25%) and lead driving savings in material wastage (technical efficiency) in batch processing
- Batch cycle time reduction through automation & batch logic simplification
- Calibration of all load cells, taking care of PID valves, leakage elimination for dosing valves etc
- Packing machine speed unlock projects (by upgradation of programs, servo drives, PLC etc.)
- Inhouse programming of all on-demand logics & projects for improving productivity, quality, safety & efficiency
- Repair of servo drives, controllers, HMI, PLC, VFD etc.
- Digitalization in safety, quality, productivity & engineering
- Driving electrical & instrument related repair cost within monthly target
- Asset care & efficiency improvement
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Troubleshooting:
Ensure the maintenance, repair, and functionality of all electrical systems, instrumentation, and control systems.
Perform diagnostics and troubleshoot equipment faults and failures, including PLCs, SCADA systems, and automated machines.
Ensure minimal downtime by attending to breakdowns in a timely and efficient manner.
Installation & Commissioning
Oversee the installation and commissioning of electrical and instrumentation equipment, including power distribution, control panels, sensors, and automation systems.
Manage projects involving new equipment installation and factory expansions, ensuring compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
Process Optimization & Automation
Work on continuous process improvements to enhance the efficiency and productivity of manufacturing lines through automation and instrumentation upgrades.
Implement advanced control systems for process automation (including PID controllers, VFDs, and HMI systems).
Electrical Safety & Compliance
Ensure all electrical installations and equipment comply with safety standards and regulations (e.g., OSHA, NEC).
Perform regular safety inspections, risk assessments, and audits on electrical and control systems.
Preventive Maintenance
Develop and implement a preventive maintenance schedule for all electrical systems and instrumentation to avoid unexpected breakdowns.
Maintain records of electrical inspections, tests, repairs, and calibration activities.
Energy Management
Monitor and manage energy consumption in the factory, optimizing energy use through the use of efficient motors, lighting systems, and power management practices.
Work with the production and facility teams to implement energy-saving measures.
Technical Documentation & Reporting
Maintain up-to-date documentation for electrical and instrumentation systems, including wiring diagrams, equipment manuals, and process flow diagrams.
Generate reports on system performance, downtime, and corrective actions.
