Torbay Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) are looking to recruit a highly motivated Assistant Team Manager to join us in our busy multi agency team of Social Care, Police, Health, Education and Probation professionals.
The post will require you to work alongside the Team Manager and the other two Assistant Team Managers to ensure that there is strong screening of contacts and robust managerial oversight of all MASH work and decision making. The successful candidate will need to have an assured understanding of safeguarding thresholds and will have to be confident in supportively challenging our partners and Social Workers when working through contacts and referrals.
Any applicant for the post will have to have excellent organisational skills and an ability to prioritise risk, with the child at the forefront of any decision making. Our Assistant Team Managers have to be confident in allocating and signing off referrals with a high quality evidence based analysis, incorporating risk management and safety planning to make a sound threshold decision within 24 hours, adhering to our timescales.
Our team has to build and sustain sound relationships with partners, other Social Care teams and families so the ability to develop strong restorative working relationships is essential.
This post meets the requirements for an Enhanced Criminal Record Check. This will show spent and unspent convictions and adult cautions which have not been filtered in line with legislation, plus any information held by local Police that is considered relevant to the role.

Essential:

Knowledge
Essential:
- Good understanding of the full range of activities delivered by the Authority and partners in relation to children, young people and families.
- Has a developed knowledge of Social Care policies and procedures, and makes themselves continually aware of new Child Care legislation and National Guidance.
- Thorough understanding of current legislation and guidance and developments in services to children young people and families.
- Demonstrates an advanced and detailed knowledge of child development, attachment theory, anti discriminatory practice, the Framework for assessment of children in needs and their families, social work theory and methods.
- Awareness of effective management practices.
Experience & Qualifications
Essential:
- At least 2 years post qualification experience of working with children and families in the context of current legislation and government initiatives.
- Two years post qualification experience of working in a local authority setting.
- Experience of working in a Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub.
- Experience of managing or supporting others and assuring compliance to policy and procedures.
- Commitment to evidence of applying an evidenced informed practice approach.
