SNV, with funding support from GIZ/EnDev and in partnership with local partner organizations, is implementing market development of electric cooking in the three western provinces of the country to increase access to e-cooking solutions in some of Nepal's most remote and rural areas. Last Mile Distributors (LMDs) and local retailers play a key role in this process by connecting e-cooking product suppliers with rural households in the project area.
To help these local retailers LMDs do perform job more effectively, there’s a need to build their business skills. With the suitable training, these retailers and LMDs will be better equipped to promote and sell e-cooking products, communicate effectively, manage their businesses, and serve their communities more effectively. The training will focus on practical, essential skills such as marketing, entrepreneurship, communication and how to use simple digital tools to grow their businesses.
In the above background, SNV wants to select a competent consulting firm/individual to facilitate the business skills and leadership as a training resource person. There are two events planned to the each of the new partners implementing area: viz. Dhangadhi for Sudurpaschim and at Tulsipur for Lumbini.
Objective:
The main aim of this assignment is to provide business skills training for LMDs and local retailers. The training will help them develop basic business skills needed to run their businesses more effectively and boost the sales and after sales functions of e-cooking products.
- Equip local retailers and LMDs with fundamental business skills, including marketing, entrepreneurship, and the use of digital tools.
- Enable local supply partners to better manage their businesses, make informed decisions, increase sales and communicate effectively.
Job Description
The Trainer will be responsible for the following activities:
- Rapid Training Needs Assessment: Conduct a rapid assessment to understand the current knowledge and skill gaps of the retailers and LMDs. This will help shape the training content to meet their specific needs.
- Training Design: Create a simple, practical training program based on the needs assessment. The training should cover basic business concepts that are easy to understand, focusing on marketing, entrepreneurship, and digital tools.
- Training Delivery: Deliver two in-person training sessions, each lasting 1.5 days (total of 12 hours) and remaining half day for evaluation and reflection. The training should be interactive, using methods such as role plays, games, group discussions, brainstorming, and other hands-on activities to ensure the LMDs actively engage and learn.
- Training Evaluation: Assess how well the training was received by the LMDs and gather feedback on its effectiveness. This will help to improve future training efforts.
- Post-Training Report: After the training, provide a brief report that includes a summary of the sessions, feedback from participants, and recommendations for any follow-up activities or future training.
Deliverables
- Two Training Sessions: Successfully deliver two 2 days training events, ensuring full participation and engagement. Timeline: within December 2024 (4 days at the field, excluding travel and preparation days)
- Post-Training Report: A brief report summarizing the training process, feedback from participants, and any recommendations for further support or training. Submission by mid-January 2025
Qualifications
- Education: Master’s degree in marketing, business studies or a related field.
- Experience: At least 10 years of experience in the clean cooking sector, with a proven track record of designing and delivering trainings, especially to supply chain actors and LMDs working in e-cooking sector.
- Skills: Ability to simplify complex business concepts and design practical, easy-to-understand training. Experience in using interactive methods like role plays, games, and group discussions to engage participants.
- Language: Fluent in Nepali, with the ability to clearly communicate with retailers and LMDs in rural settings.
- Knowledge of Rural Context: Experience working in remote and rural areas of Nepal
Additional Information
Budget: Maximum:NPR 176,000 (exclusive of VAT) for trainer fee.
Travel including flights and vehicle for local travel (between two training venues), accommodation, and food expenses of the resource person (during the training as provided by selected hotel) will be covered directly by SNV. Materials and logistics (e.g., training hall, stationery and printing of materials, any required equipment or materials for training activities) will be taken care by SNV.
