Job Summary
The Chief Accountant for our car rental company will oversee all financial operations, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting and compliance with relevant regulations. This role involves managing financial transactions, budgeting, auditing, and providing insights that support strategic decisions to enhance profitability and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities - Financial Reporting:
- Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP/IFRS.
- Ensure accurate and timely completion of financial close processes, including reconciliation of accounts related to fleet assets, rentals, and other revenue streams.
- Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Lead the annual budgeting process, working closely with department heads to develop forecasts that align with business goals.
- Analyze variances between actual and budgeted figures, providing actionable insights for management.
- Compliance and Auditing:
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations, tax laws, and internal policies specific to the car rental industry.
- Coordinate and support external audits, implementing recommendations as needed to enhance financial practices.
- Fleet Management Accounting:
- Oversee the accounting for fleet acquisition, depreciation, and disposals, ensuring accurate tracking of vehicle costs and revenues.
- Work with the operations team to analyze fleet performance and optimize rental strategies.
- Team Leadership:
- Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the accounting department, ensuring efficiency and accuracy in all processes.
- Tax Management:
- Oversee tax compliance and planning, ensuring timely and accurate filing of local, state, and federal taxes.
- Stay informed about changes in tax legislation affecting the car rental industry.
- Financial Analysis:
- Conduct detailed financial analysis to identify trends, risks, and opportunities within the car rental market.
- Provide strategic recommendations to senior management based on financial performance and market conditions.
- Process Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for process enhancements within the accounting function to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive accounting policies and procedures tailored to the car rental business.
Qualifications - Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or Master’s degree preferred.
- Experience:
- Minimum 6 years of accounting experience, preferably in the car rental or automotive industry.
- Strong knowledge of fleet management and rental revenue accounting practices.
- Skills:
- Proficient in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, or similar) and financial modeling tools.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a strong attention to detail.
- Effective leadership and team management capabilities.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
