Role Title – Senior Accountant
Department – Finance Operations
Location – Dubai
Reports to - Finance Manager / Head of Fin Ops / CFO
Position Overview
The Senior Accountant for the e-commerce company will manage financial processes critical to accounting, month end closing, receivables, inventory reconciliations, invoice verification, and P&L management. The role emphasizes managing detailed elements of accounts receivable, expense accruals, prepayments, and compliance with IFRS standards, particularly IFRS 15, IFRS 16, IAS 37, IAS 38. The Senior Accountant will collaborate across departments to ensure accurate financial records, proper accrual accounting, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Profit & Loss (P&L) Management:
- Oversee and manage the preparation, analysis, and reporting of the Profit & Loss statement,
providing key insights to support business decisions.
- Ensure accurate and timely expense accruals, bookings, and financial reporting processes.
- Collaborate with relevant departments to ensure timely and accurate recognition of costs, and
optimize expense management for profitability.
- Month-End Closing Activities:
- Ensure all month-end closing activities are completed accurately and on time, including
reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and financial statement preparation.
- Review and verify all month-end adjustments to ensure proper financial reporting.
- Expense Management:
- Accurately record and manage expense accruals, prepayments, and related adjustments within
financial systems.
- Work closely with various departments to ensure their accruals are properly accounted for.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal policies for expense recognition and
reporting.
- Invoice Verification and Control:
- Verify and review vendor and operational invoices, including last-mile delivery invoices, ensuring
compliance with contracts and purchase orders.
- Manage vendor statement reconciliations and promptly resolve any invoice discrepancies or
disputes.
- IFRS Compliance (Focus on IFRS 16):
- Ensure accurate accounting treatment of leases and related items in line with IFRS 16.
- Maintain proper records and reconciliations of all leasing arrangements and ensure periodic
reporting aligns with IFRS standards.
- Accounts Receivable Management:
- Oversee and manage all elements of accounts receivable, including:
▪ Receivables from payment gateways.
▪ Receivables from 3PL (third-party logistics) partners.
▪ COD (Cash on Delivery) receivables from drivers.
▪ Receivables from credit suppliers.
- Ensure accurate posting, timely reconciliation, and collection of payments.
- Monitor outstanding balances, coordinate with the credit control team, and maintain accurate
aging reports for receivables.
- VAT Compliance:
- Oversee VAT accounting, filing, and timely submission of VAT returns in UAE and KSA.
- Assist in compliance with all applicable VAT regulations and maintain proper documentation for
audits.
- Assist in handling VAT audits and queries from tax authorities.
- Inventory Reconciliation and Controls:
- Conduct regular reconciliations of inventory between ERP and WMS (Warehouse Management
System).
- Reconcile inventory held in third-party warehouses and maintain accurate records for
consignment inventory, ensuring strong controls and compliance.
- Work closely with operational teams to resolve discrepancies in inventory levels and ensure
proper costing and valuation.
- Reconciliation of Financial Records:
- Perform regular reconciliations for accounts, including bank statements, accounts receivable,
prepayments, and accruals.
- Ensure data accuracy and consistency across all financial records and sub-ledgers.
- Collaboration and Reporting:
- Work with cross-functional teams (e.g., logistics, operations, sales) to streamline financial
processes.
- Provide regular reports and detailed financial insights to the Finance Manager and senior
leadership.
Qualifications And Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field (BBA, B.Com. CPA, ACCA, CMA is preferred).
- Minimum of [5 to 6] years of experience in accounting, with a focus on managing receivables, inventory,
expense accruals, prepayments, and P&L management, preferably in an e-commerce or retail
environment.
- In-depth knowledge and experience with IFRS standards, particularly IFRS 16.
- Proficiency in using ERP systems (Oracle Netsuites), financial software, and inventory management tools.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills, with keen attention to detail.
- Ability to effectively collaborate across departments and communicate financial data clearly.

- Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems, with experience in inventory management systems (e.g.,
ERP vs. WMS reconciliation).
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data analysis).
- Strong knowledge of IFRS standards, with expertise in IFRS 16 (Leases).
- Detailed understanding of accounts receivable management processes.
- Ability to analyze financial statements, including P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow.
- Expense accrual and booking expertise, including prepayments and cost management.
- Invoice verification and control, especially for last-mile logistics and operational costs.
- Reconciliation skills, covering accounts, inventory, and financial data.
- Familiarity with last-mile logistics invoice verification processes.
- Experience with high-volume transaction environments and financial data analysis.
- ERP, Microsoft NetSuite experience is a plus.
- Working knowledge of UAE & KSA VAT, Zakat &Tax, withholding Tax, e-invoicing will be plus.
